Museum of paleontology and historical geology
- Sofia The Museum of Paleontology
and Historical Geology was arranged in its almost contemporary appearance
in 1965, immediately before the opening of the Karpato-Balkan Geological
Association's congress. With this arrangement the visitors can gain a
good concept of the enormous fossil treasure and the facial diversity
of the geological systems, found on Bulgarian territory. With the exposition
of diverse geological maps of various Bulgarian and foreign geologists,
the different aspects and historical conceptions of the geological structure
of our country can be traced.
Museum for vertebrate paleontology
- Asenovgrad The museum posses the
most numerous Bulgarian collection of Neogen vertebrates. Only in the
scientific collection of late Miocene mammals consists of 20 000 - ancestrals
proboscideans, carnivores, primates,ancestors of the horse, and many others...
Natural History Museum Pleven The collection in the
Pleven's Paleontology Museum represents well, numerous species from that
geological period. The samples are gathered by students and scientists.
It also includes precious mammal fossils from Pliocene and Pleistocene
(from bears, elephants). The Pleistocene flora is presented with enviously
well preserved variety.
Department of Paleobotany and Pollen
Analysis collection The Department of Paleobotany
and Pollen Analysis emerged in 1962 as a problem group within the lagrer
Plant Systematics Department under Dr Slavcho Petrov. In 1968 the group
was transformed into an independent Department of Paleobotany and Palinology,
with Dr Slavcho Petrov, as its first head. After Dr Petrov's retirement
(1989) it was headed by Dr Emanuil Palamarev. In 1994 the Departement
changed its name into Paleobotany and Pollen Analysis.
